What Would Happen if You Threw All Your Stuff Away?

I’m sat at my desk this morning trying to play catch up after delivering 5 workshops, 2 speeches and 3 coaching sessions in the past 2 weeks. My office is chaos and my inbox is full. Boxes of paper, notes, pens, balloons (what were they for?) a half drunk cup of tea and self-help books – I need a lot of help! – clutter the room. So, I’ve gone against type (never mind eat the frog before breakfast – hopefully he’ll have hopped off by dinner), I’ve read the emails that I want to read, not those that I have to read, first.

There is a pearl shaped nugget in my inbox. One of my favourite writers, leadership gurus and all round fun Scottish bloke (to be frank, I haven’t met a Scottish bloke that isn’t fun – must be something to do with the weather up there – you have to laugh, drink and be merry, otherwise you’d easily get depressed!) has sent me his blog. It’s from Dr Mark Nugent. If you only have the time to read one or two people’s blogs each month, make sure one of them is his.  Today, it’s about getting rid of all your clutter so that we can focus on what’s important.

It is for such a day as this.

He also recommends a book by a couple of guys called the Minimalists. They’re on tour around the world this year. They’re coming to Manchester this Autumn to help us to clear out the crap (metaphorically you understand, I don’t think they have a van that they drive to your house to pick your stuff up and take it to the tip!) They’re all about leading more purposeful lives. Right up any ‘Tuesday Club Girl or Boy’s’ alley!

I’m going to their gig on 19th October (venue to be confirmed) and I hope you’ll want to come. Check out the link below to get your free ticket. In the meantime, click here to read Mark’s article. I love it, short, succinct, but he makes me question myself and do stuff that I wouldn’t have ordinarily done. That’s the power of positive influence at work for you. So what are you going to do now?

Back to the clutter. Now where’s that frog?

Have a fantastic week – catch you soon.

Lily

They will be talking in Manchester on 19th October. Track record says there will be only a few dozen people in the room. Tickets are free. Venue to be announced but I bet you it’s Waterstone’s on Deansgate. See you there.
